learning. Playgrounds can be made to be fun, stimulating, engaging and
educational places to be, with the help of playground markings
from QMS.
We can transform your playground into a wonderland of games
and learning tools that will stimulate young people, whilst
enhancing and reinforcing classroom learning.
From our wide range of School Playground Markings, bespoke school
logos, Sports Court & Multi Use Games Area markings through to
Anti-Slip surfacing and Colour Coating.
However, we do not stop there! We are also able to provide
specialist decorative resin surfacing as well as Rubber Wet Pour
Safety Surfacing. Our Decorative Resin Bonded and Permeable Resin

The last few years
have been extremely challenging times for the construction industry.
Since the Bank induced recession in late 2008, many companies have been
struggling to find investment that allows businesses to grow and
prosper. With Banks holding on to as much cash as possible, finding
that there are companies continuing to flourish and expand says a
lot more about the entrepreneurial spirit, that exists within the UK's
small businesses, than the quality and amount of help and investment
received from todays Banks!
Keeping this in mind, 2011 was Quality Marking Services' most
successful year yet! We invested in new people, equipment, services and
innovative products. This has allowed us to enhance the business and
invest in future growth, whilst also staying true to our values of supplying the best possible quality and service.
Perhaps the big Banks can learn something from the UK's small successful businesses!
We recently
completed phase one of installing Resin Bound surfacing for Sir Robert
McAlpine at the prestigious Forum Project for Exeter University.
Originally the
specification called for an exposed aggregate concrete, this was
not found to create the desired finish and an alternative was
called for. The material on completion would be required to give
a stunning finish and be durable enough to withstand the use
of the many thousands of Students and Staff for years to come.
QMS were tasked
to come up with a solution that would give a quick, cost effective and
natural aggregate finish, that would complement the beautiful
surroundings of the new building and landscaping to the Plazza Terraces.
After consultations
with Sir Robert McAlpine and the Architect a decision was
made to use the Addagrip Addaset resin bound surfacing system
with Scandinavian Pearl aggregate. Our installation included surface
preparation, geotextile reinforcing membrane and flush fitting metal
edging detail.
During January we
installed RapidShield in the freezer sections in some of the UK's
leading food chain distribution centres. In collaboration with
Quaker RapidShield UK, we have developed an installation technique to
allow us to install the full RapidShield system in temperatures as low
as -26°C.
The freezers can be
kept working throughout the whole operation with only minimal disruption
as is usually associated with the RapidShield System. Using
RapidShield can save thousands
of pounds in asscoiated costs and prevent the huge
disruption and logistical nightmare that such
works otherwise entail.
The RapidShield System
is rapidly becoming the most cost effective method for lining
warehouses in the UK and gaining the loyalty of many satisfied
customers.
Bowmer & Kirkland recently completed the construction of a new
Distribution Centre at Bridgwater in Somerset on behalf of Morrison's
Supermarkets.
The design specification for the internal and external line markings
included the use of Quaker RapidShield™ for the internal markings and a
combination of Thermoplastic Screed, Methyl Methacrylate and Preformed
Thermoplastic for the external markings.
The project had us on site for 7 weeks, working to a tight
timescale to assist Bowmer & Kirkland with the successful completion
of one of the largest Distribution Centres in the South West.

During the last twelve months, QMS has managed to raise an
astonishing £3700 for our chosen cause and extremely worthy
Construction related charity, The Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund.
The Lighthouse Club Benevolent
Fund is a registered charity dedicated to giving aid and
assistance to construction workers and their families who suffer
accident or ill health.
Membership is open to 'anyone associated with the Construction Industry'.
Other than payment of subcriptions, an individual member's involvement
with the Club is as much or as little as he or she chooses.
But remember, the Club really is 'The best network in the business'.
Active membership is not only fun and rewarding, it does open a lot of
doors.
If you are interested in membership, contact Mandy Mallitt on 0844 272 6322 or email m.mallitt@lighthouseclub.org for details of your nearest branch.

We recently successfully completed the annual High Friction
Surfacing contract for Devon County Council. The contract consisted of
6500m2 of BBA HAPAS Type 1 MMA Resin with a 1mm to 3mm Buff Chinese Bauxite and reinstating any line markings affected.
Most of the works had to be carried out during restricted hours at
night, to reduce disruption to the travelling public. The advanced
properties of using a Methyl Methacrylate resin allow us to lay during
winter down to as low as 0°C - most Epoxy based systems
require at least 10°C. With its minimal odour and extremely fast curing
times of less than an hour, these are just some of the reasons that
enabled us to complete on time and on budget.
Minimising disruption to the road user and the very high
durability was a prime consideration by Devon County Council when they
specified the system. The fast cure and high durability also
has the added benefit of reducing Carbon Footprint and CO2 emissions through minimising delays and reduced replacement costs.
Working closely with Devon County Council Highways Engineers and our
supply chain partners, we have again delivered this project on time, on
budget and with minimal disruption to the people of Devon, whilst
helping to drive down the number of motoring accidents.
January 2012 saw us taking delivery of a new purpose built Anti-Skid Truck into the fleet.
Completely designed in house for our High Friction Surfacing
Operations, the new vehicle will enable us to deliver to you higher
productivity and efficiency.
As part of our vehicle & plant buying process, all new acquisitions are evaluated for their CO2
emissions, environmental impact and health and safety requirements.
This new truck is no exception, having greater fuel efficiency and
loading capacity than the previous vehicle, enabling us to reduce the
number of return trips to replenish materials.
Our surfacing team will also find the additional cab space and creature comforts very welcome.
At the recent Road Safety Marking Association annual conference,
professor Pete Thomas, (Director of Transport Safety Research Centre at
Loughborough University), stated that there has been
a significant reduction in fatal accidents on the UK Highway
Network since 2006, when approximately 3,200 fatalities were
recorded. This reduced by 41% to approximately 1,900 in 2010.
Coincidentally, QMS HyperLine™ was launched in the UK in 2006 and we
have since applied 4 million linear metres throughout the highway
network significantly increasing the night time visibility of the Road
Marking through enhanced retro-reflectivity and therefore improving Road
safety.
Along with other major road safety improvements, we feel QMS HyperLine™
has gone a long way to help improve road safety throughout the UK
Highway Network.
