17-10/2010 QMS Secures Large Lidl Contract
QMS Have recently secured a large contract for Lidls for some of their distribution depots around the country. It was remarked that the reason for placing this extensive contract was not based purely on price alone, but also the excellant quality and service that QMS have provided to Lidls in the past.
Greg Clark (Operations Director for QMS) said 'when you are working in an environment where the work area is in operation 24hrs a day, you have to put your clients requirements first. A detailed plan was put together with full consultation with Lidls management to ensure that they could continue to carry out their operations without any hinderance from our works'.
15-1-2010 The Big Freeze
South Hams District Council recently asked QMS to respond urgently to a very slippery and dangerous surface on the River Erme footbridge in Ivybridge.
Upon our inspection, it was apparent the existing anti-slip surfacing applied to the timber deck was not performing due to wear and the icy conditions experienced in the preceding few days. QMS were asked to specify and install a suitable cold applied product that could be applied quickly to a timber deck, with fast cure capabilities and would keep the amount of time the bridge was closed to the absolute minimum. The material would have to be hard wearing, flexible and offer very good anti-slip properties.
From the initial call from the client at 2pm, we had to inspect and survey the site and report back to the Council our recommendations. After approval for the works to proceed we organised material, plant, labour and sub-contractors to attend site the next morning. Our supply chain partner Jeff Williams Mobile Pressure Washing arrived at 6am to clean off the salt residue and loose materials from the surface. By 7am QMS were able to begin operations to dry the existing surface, prepare and apply the anti-slip coating. The material is applied manually approximately 1.0mm to 1.20mm thick with a 4mm serrated squeegee and back rollered with a medium pile roller and left to cure for 15 to 20 minutes. All work was completed the same day and open to pedestrians from 2pm.
Festive Greetings
Everyone at QMS would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.
The office will be closed from 24th December 2009 until 5th January 2010

In November, we installed our Resin Bound Decorative Surfacing System at Newton Abbot Hospital on behalf of Rydon Construction Ltd working with Devon Primary Care Trust. We were asked to install our system, as it provides a smooth, attractive, hard wearing, low maintenance, porous surface. The finished surface is a seamless bound paving system, which is flexible and resistant to cracking. Michele Lavelle from 4D Landscape Design wanted to give the space the appearance of water but without any of the maintenance issues. To achieve this we used our blue coloured recycled glass. 19-11-07 - Guess the Metreage..update!
Earlier this year we decided to run a competition to guess the amount of QMS HyperLine that we have applied this season.
During the 2007 season we operated within Super Highway areas 1, 2, 3 and 7 and on the A30 / A35 DBFO in Devon & Dorset and the A50 DBFO in Derbyshire. We also carried out the application of 10,000m of our Wet Night HyperLine for Cheshire County Council.
The initial results for the Wet Night HyperLine indicated 520 mcd/m2/lux in the dry and 250mcd/m2/lux in the wet. We will continue to monitor these lines over the next few months.
The application of QMS HyperLine provides sharp edges to lines compared to traditional spray thermoplastic machines and the product is cold applied, solvent free and environmentally friendly, therefore it does not pose the same risks as hot applied thermoplastics.
Since the introduction of QMS HyperLine to the UK market at the end of 2001 we have continued to double our output year on year. During the 2007 season, we applied 800,000m of line (mostly 200mm wide). Plans are now in place to maximise productivity and introduce further product improvements to continue expansion next year.
We received an overwhelming amount of guesses from various customers / suppliers / friends and are delighted to announce that Simon Giret (formally of Potters Europe) had the closest estimate with 900,000m. Simon, who left Potters earlier this year will be receiving a luxury hamper from us in the next few weeks. Well done Simon!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who joined in with the competition and particularly those who have placed orders with us this year.
We look forward to providing 'the way to a brighter future' in 2008.
