When markings are no longer required and removal is necessary.

Sometimes it is time for a change and the need for removing the existing lines becomes necessary. This could be due to a layout change or prior to re-marking the lines where material build-up has occurred over a number of years of re-application.

At QMS, we can offer ALL options of line removal to best suit the site requirements. Selecting the wrong system could result in the removal of the marking leaving an unsightly scar, which can be confusing to any road user. We detail below a quick guide into the systems available and would love to hear from you to discuss your requirements in detail.

Scabbling – This system of line removal is perfect for removing the thickness of material prior to re-application of markings or as an initial process before utilising either of the following systems for 100% line removal when new layouts are required.

HydroBlast – This system utilises extremely high pressure water though a series of jets to obliterate the marking from the surface. This process is subject to a pre-site inspection to ensure that the substrate is of sound construction and will not be adversely affected by removal using this process. If using this system prior to marking a new layout, the area will need to be cleaned and force dried.

EnviroBlast – This system utilises a vacuum-recovered shot blast, which removes the unwanted marking from the carriageway whilst vacuuming the waste into a dust-free bagging system. This is a dry process and perfect when needing to install new markings at the same time. The down-side is that the weather conditions MUST be dry, with a dry road surface to enable this process to be carried out.

We value the health of our employees as the number one priority of the Company. As such, we do not offer line removal by Hot Compressed Air, commonly referred to as ‘burning off’. This process is extremely noisy, produces vast amounts of smoke and places unnecessary and significant risk of long term health issues to operatives such as hearing loss and respiratory illness. As such, we actively encourage any client to avoid this process and utilise alternatives.
